At the end of the day, however productive we are often correlates with a deeper or greater reason behind those tasks. Is yours to provide for the family, add comfort and style to a wardrobe or living space, help transform lives through more hopeful opportunities, or??? What's your driving force?
At Tillage Clothing, what pushes us forward is fighting human trafficking. One of the most common forms is sex trafficking, but a lot of us don't really have a clear image of what that means. Hopefully this definition adds a little clarity to the grey: “recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, obtaining, patronizing, or soliciting of an individual through the means of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of commercial sex”. “Commercial sex act” is defined as “any sex act on account of which anything of value is given to or received by any person,” according to https://humantraffickinghotline.org/type-trafficking/sex-trafficking. 100,000-300,000 people are at risk of being trafficked in the US alone. It's such an "underground" system, without any official way to assess exact numbers.
The scene is pretty horrific (and not fun to talk about), but we believe it is already shifting, and there is beauty and light for these victims on the other side. Let's keep moving together to help prevent victims, create survivors and wonderful opportunities for them.
If you know of someone who could be at risk, you can pass along or call the National Human Trafficking hotline: 1-888-373-7888 or text 233733.
